Challenge
The start-up had a vision for a product targeting high net worth individuals and had a very strong business-focussed management team in place, but had no technical delivery capability or CTO.
When NorthLink Digital was engaged there was no technical architecture or infrastructure. The management team were looking for help in understanding what was technically feasible to help shape the product roadmap and deliver it.
Solution
With our team’s long history in financial technology, NorthLink Digital was able to help the start-up put in place a technical architecture, strategy and programme plan to build an MVP (Minimum Viable Product). With an architecture and plan in place, NorthLink Digital then supplied the entire team of developers to build the MVP from scratch.
The product was hosted entirely on GCP (Google Cloud Platform) making use of many of its features–including a Cloud SQL (Postgres) database and Cloud Functions to provide a serverless backend. The application stack was JavaScript focussed–with a React Native mobile app, a React web based management portal, and NodeJS application servers.
Building the mobile application in React Native meant that a single codebase could be used to deliver both the iOS and Android applications.
The app allows a user to connect all of their accounts and investments using an Open Banking account aggregation service to see a consolidated view of their wealth alongside other analysis and actionable insights.
Due to the sensitive nature of the information contained within the product a full cyber security penetration test was carried out by an external third party.
